Preparation
Take the equipment cards and put them face up. To the left
side of the board (near the pile of mover cards) the equipment
cards with white background colour are spread out. These
are the team cards and all equipment that can be carried
without a backpack. To the right of the board, spread out the
cards with green background colour: the backpacks and other
equipment that can only be carried using a backpack.
The team receives the 5 equipment cards with yellow
background colour. In this variation, the equipment of the
whole team is put together, for example below the game
board.
Now, deal 6 mover cards to the players. These are kept in
hand like in the basic game.
Supply spots
1. On each supply spot, the team can take extra equipment and
leave behind redundant equipment.
2. First, you receive 1 team card.
3. Then you choose whether you want to start (or keep)
climbing with a backpack. If the team already had a backpack,
you can keep it. If you did not have one yet, you can take it
now.
4. With a backpack, you can take any equipment cards, up to a
maximum of 12 kilos. Help each other to decide what to take.
5. Equipment cards that were not used in the previous stretch,
can be kept. You can also choose to leave them behind, but
this means they are removed from the game (put them in the
game box).
6. A backpack can also be left behind in this manner (put in the
box). Without a backpack you can only take the equipment to
the left side of the board, and only 4 kilos. So you might have
to discard some other cards too.
7. On the way down, you can also choose from the cards on one
of the trouble spots right before or after the supply spot.
Replenishing the mover cards
When all players have run out of mover cards, a team without a
backpack gets 6 new cards. A team with a backpack gets 4 mover
cards.
More challenge
This variation also allows adding the rule of replenishing the
mover card pile only once. Second time is showtime!
Another possible rule to add is that you can no longer use team
cards as wild cards.
Mathematical game
Real prodigies and math lovers can choose to play with the
precise weights of the equipments, instead of the rounded
numbers. This game provides some new options, but perhaps
some new complications too!
