A. BRAKING SYSTEM
HOW IT WORKS AND WEAR
Pressing the brake lever with your fingers causes
a braking action by the pressure exerted on the
brake pads which rub against the rotating discs
and generate friction, slowing the MTB down. When
braking, the pressure exerted on the brake pads is
important, but the coefcient of friction between
the two parts that come into contact (pads-disc)
plays an important part. When water, dirt or oil, etc.
comes into contact with the braking surfaces, the
coefficient of friction is altered. This is why initially
disc brakes do not work properly in the case of rain.
Moreover, the wear on pads and discs is increased
during rides in rain and/or mud.
Squeaks may occur during use in adverse weather conditions with rain and mud etc.
Loss of fluid and pressure in the hydraulic lines may cause the brakes to fail. Replace and reset the
system. Danger!
B. DISC BRAKE ADJUSTMENT
On wet ground, disc brakes respond faster than
brake pads. They require less maintenance and do
not wear out the rims. Sometimes if they are wet,
they tend to be noisy during braking.
To get the best performance when braking, the brake
levers can be adjusted to the length of your fingers.
This adjustment is possible thanks to a small hex
screw that is generally located directly in the brake
lever.
C. FUNCTIONAL CHECK
Activate the brake lever and check that no liquid leaks from the hydraulic system. Oil leaks are due
to the malfunction of the brakes and so, maintenance should be carried out immediately by specialist.
Replace or reset the system. Check the pads for wear via the inspection window located on the upper
part of the brake calliper. The thickness of the braking material should project far enough with respect
to the container spring.
