WARRANTY SAFETY GENERAL ADVICE
4. BRAKES
The bicycle brakes are needed to regulate the speed depending on the terrain, path and traffic, but above
all, they guarantee the bike will stop in a short distance.
Take care how you brake because as the bike decelerates the cyclist’s weight moves forward as does not
the distribution of the load on the two wheels. For this reason, you need to brake with right amount of
force, especially when braking downhill.
Excessive force on the front brake lever can cause the bike to overturn.
When braking on the flat, try to transfer your weight as far as back as possible while pressing both bra-
kes. On non-slippery ground, the front brake transmits a force which is much greater than the one acting
on the back thanks to the effect of weight displacement.
The Torpado Impudent bikes are normally built with
the left lever operating the front brake and the right
lever operating the rear brake, unless the customer
requests a specific change.
You should check the attribution of the levers to the
brakes and in if you have problems with getting used
to the layout, get a specialised mechanic to invert it
to suit your requirements.
Most of the Torpado Impudent models have a brake disc system. If you brake hard or for a long time, the
braking system may overheat. This will result in less braking power, or in the worst case, the complete
failure of the system and the risk of a serious accident. We recommend that you observe how you ride and
get used to braking briefly, but hard and releasing the brakes occasionally. If you have any doubts about
the braking efciency, stop and let the brake disc or the rim cool down.
The incorrect operation of the braking system can lead to a loss of control of the bike with the risk
of serious consequences. Get used to using your bike’s brakes by practising emergency stops in traffic-
free areas, until you have complete control of the bike.
If the ground is wet, the braking action is considerably reduced and the tyres have less grip, so you need
longer distances to stop. Be careful.
