3. Turn the crank arm several times and allow a few drops to fall on the sprockets.
4. Let the chain rest a while so that the lubricant can work into the chain.
5. Remove the excess lubricant so that it does not spatter or pick up dirt while riding.
Only use biodegradable lubricant that does not pollute the environment!
Make sure that the lubricant does not get on to the brake discs or the brake pads which could af-
fect braking capacity. Risk of an accident!
Although the chain is subject to wear, this can be reduced with frequent lubrication and by using
gears that run more or less run in a straight line.
Nevertheless, if a bike is used frequently with a pedal rate over 60-70 strokes/minute, the limit of use
will be reached after having ridden approximately 800 km.
Heavily stretched chains affect the response of the gears and has a significant impact on the wear
of the sprockets and chainrings as well. Replacing these components is much more expensive than the
cost of a new chain.
Check the chain at regular intervals for wear by running it on the large chainring and lifting the chain off
the chainring between your thumb and forefinger.
If you can lift it off clearly, it means the links are seriously lengthened and you need to replace it.
There are accurate measuring instruments for a more professional check on the wear of the chain.
Do not replace the chain yourself. This operation requires experience because most of the modern chain
parts are not equipped with master link. Instead, these are chains with a continuous design and, therefo-
re, require special tools. If necessary, ask a dealer to choose and install the chain best suited to your bike.
A badly tensioned chain can cause falls. Ask a specialised technician to replace the chain.
Once the work on the transmission has finished, go out on a trial ride on flat ground with no traffic.
Any adjustment errors can cause loss of control of the bike during a ride on a busy road!
