Pattern Edit
The SD1 can record new Styles both in real time and also exploiting a MIDI connection to automate and speed-up the process. It is also possi-
ble to copy Sections of different Styles and to modify the timbres used in the tracks.
The most important innovations of the SD1 relate to the synchronization of an audio file with the Pattern, the use of a Live Drum derived from
the sampled grooves plus an easy function for MIDI registrations.
The Styles created or modified using Patter Edit are always saved in the dedicated Styles Folder no. 95 (with Master Folder enabled) and from
here they are called up directly by enabling Single RAM Style. In this way the Styles that already exist are not erased from the Flash RAM. This
procedure is performed using the Load function where however, the overwrite protection of the Flash RAM is to be disabled by entering a pass-
word that can be customised. From a practical point of view the only difference between loading a Style in Flash RAM and loading it directly in
RAM from disk lies in the possibility to keep the Styles loaded in the memory even after the instrument has been turned off. For more skilled
musicians this also means that the table of the Styles in the permanent Flash memory can be completely modified. When playing live the load-
ing speed of a Style from disk is in any event so fast that the musician is not troubled with long dead times.
The default setting of the Styles in Flash RAM can in any event be reset at any time by resetting the parameters. This procedure is described
in the “Resetting and up-dating the SD1” section.
The structure of a Style of the SD1 (also called Pattern) entails eight separate tracks with independent parameters, namely:
- Drum: associated with a Drum Set for the rhythm section.
- Bass: associated with a GM timbre for the bass track.
- Chord 1: associated with a GM timbre for the first lead accompaniment track.
- Chord 2: associated with a GM timbre for the second lead accompaniment track
- Chord 3: associated with a GM timbre for the third lead accompaniment track
- Chord 4: associated with a GM timbre for the fourth lead accompaniment track
- Chord 5: associated with a GM timbre for the fifth lead accompaniment track
- Drum 2: associated with the use of a Live Drum derived from a groove
Each of these tracks is found within a Section, or rather a specifically defined section of the automatic accompaniment.
The SD1 can program the following Sections:
- To End - Arrange A
- Intro 1, 2, 3 - Arrange B
- Fill In 1, 2, 3, 4 (Break) - Arrange C
- Ending 1, 2, 3 - Arrange D
Pattern editing is possible both on Styles stored in hard disk and for the Custom Styles in Flash RAM.
To modify a Style stored in hard disk simply select the F5 List function from the initial page of Pattern Edit, or from the list that will be shown
the first time Pattern Edit is accessed.
To modify a Custom Style create a new Pattern using Pattern Edit and copy the parameters of the Custom Style using the F4 Copy function.
IIn this last case the creation of a Pattern also corresponds to the creation of a .PAT file for which you may decide its name, with relative iden-
tification number that is required to call it up using the Single RAM Style function.
Pattern Edit does not work on Styles stored in Floppy Disk. They must therefore necessarily be copied in the hard disk to be able to use them.
From a purely technical point of view, Pattern Edit exploits only one RAM location to modify the Style. This means that a number of Styles
cannot be loaded to be modified at a later date and above all, all the modifications made must be saved each time they are made otherwise
the Style will be lost when the SD1 is turned off. This RAM location is managed completely automatically and is not seen by the musician, who
needs not worry about it.
THE FIRST PAGE OF THE EDIT PATTERN MENU
To access the editing function of a Style you must be in the main page of the display, then press PATTERN EDIT and the LED lights up.
To return to the main page press the EXIT push button. In some cases the SONG PLAY push button or the SEQUENCER is to be disabled before
accessing Pattern Edit.
