This is the Quick Start Guide, which provides you with instructions on the basic opera tions of the IC rec order .
Please read it car efully. W e hope you enjoy using your new Sony IC rec order .
Note
Depending on the country or region, some of the models or optional acces sories are not av ailable.
On power
Operat e the IC rec order on 3. 0V or 2.4V .
Use two LR03 (siz e AAA) alkaline batteries or NH‑ AAA
rechar geable batteries.
On safety
Do not oper ate the IC rec order while driving, cycling
or operating an y motorize d vehicle.
On handling
ˎ Do not leave the IC re corder in a loc ation near heat
sourc es, or in a place subject to dir ect sunlight,
ex cessive dust or mechanic al shock.
ˎ Should any solid object or liquid fall into the IC
rec order , remove the battery and have the IC
rec order check ed by qualified personnel befor e
operating it an y further.
If you have any questions or problems c oncerning
your IC re c order , please c onsult your nearest Sony
dealer .

Caution
Battery
1. P ower on.
Slide and lift the battery compartment lid, then inser t
batteries with the c orrect polarity .
T urn the power on.
T o prevent unint entional opera tions (HOLD)
2. Set the date and time .
Press – or + to set the year (the last two digits of
the year), and then press PLA Y/STOP•ENTER. Repeat
this proc edure t o set month, day , hour , and minute in
sequence .
3 . Select the menu language.
Pr ess DISP/MENU.
Press – or + to select “Detail Menu” , and then
pres s PLA Y/ST OP•ENTER.
Press – or + to select “Language, ” and then pr ess
PLA Y/ST OP•ENTER.
Press – or + to select the language that you want
to use in the display window , and then press PLA Y/
ST OP•ENTER.
Press (stop) to r eturn to the stop mode display .
4. Recor d.
¼ Bef ore you start using the IC re corder , make sure tha t you slide the
HOLD•PO WER ON/OFF switch towar ds the center to r elease the
HOLD status.
Press REC/P AUSE.
Recor ding starts and the operation indic ator ( ‑A) flashes in
orange , and then lights in red.
¼ Y ou can pause rec ording by pres sing REC/P AUSE. Press
REC/P AUSE again to r estart recor ding.
Place the IC r ecor der so that the built-in micr ophone face
the direction of the sour ce to be re cor ded.
Press (stop) to stop r ecording.
The “ Acc essing... ” anima tion appears and the rec ording stops.
5 . Listen.
Press PLA Y/ST OP•ENTER.
Playback starts and the operation indic ator ( ‑ A) lights in
green.
Adjust the volume by pres sing VOL –/+.
Press (stop) to stop playback.
6 . Er ase.
Once a file is er ased, you cannot r estore it.
Pr ess ERASE.
“Erase?” is displayed and the file to be erase d is played back
for confirma tion.
Select “YES” using – or +, and then press
PLA Y/ST OP•ENTER.
The “Erasing... ” animation appears and the sele cted file is
erased.
Installing the help guide on your c omputer
By installing the help guide on your comput er from the built ‑in memory of the IC recor der , you can
search for de tailed opera tions and possible solutions when a problem oc curs.
Connect the (USB) connector of the IC r ecorder with the USB port of your running
computer with the supplied USB c onnecting cable inserted into the connectors secur ely
until each plug stops to the end.
In Windows: Click [Computer] (or [My Comput er]), then double-click [IC REC ORDER]
[FOR WINDOWS].
In Mac: Double-click [IC RECORDER] on the deskt op.
Install the help guide.
In Windows: Double‑click [Help_Guide_Installer] (or [Help_Guide_Installer.e xe]).
In Mac: Double‑click [Help_Guide_Installer_for_mac.app]. (v10.5. 8 or higher)
Follow the instructions that appear on the scr een to procee d with installation.
After the installation c ompletes, double-click the [icdp33_ce_HelpGuide] ic on in the
desktop for Windows (or in Finder f or Mac).
The help guide is displayed.

Y ou can select the following languages:

C opying files fr om the IC rec order t o your computer
Y ou can copy the files and f olders from the IC r ecor der to your computer t o store them.
Connect the IC r ecorder to your c omputer .
Copy files or f olders you want to tr ansfer to your computer .
Drag and dr op the files or folders you want to c opy from “IC REC ORDER” or “MEMORY CARD” to
the local disk on your comput er .

and then drop.
Disconnect the IC r ecorder fr om your computer .
Installing Sound Or ganizer
Install Sound Organiz er on your computer .
Note
Sound Organiz er is compatible with the Windows PC only . It is not c ompatible with Mac.
¼ When inst alling Sound Organizer , log in to an acc ount with administrator privileges.
Connect the (USB) connector of the IC r ecorder with the USB port of your running
computer with the supplied USB c onnecting cable inserted into the connectors secur ely
until each plug stops to the end.
Make sur e the IC recor der has been rec ognized properly .
While the IC rec order is c onnected to the c omputer , “Connecting” is displayed in the display
window of the IC rec order .
Go to the [Start] menu, click [Computer] (or [My C omputer]), and then double-click [IC
REC ORDER] [FOR WINDOWS].
Double-click [SoundOrganiz erInstaller_V140] (or [SoundOr ganizerInstaller_V140 .ex e]).
Follow the instructions that appear on the scr een.
Make sur e that you accept the t erms of the license agr eement, select [I accept the terms
in the license agr eement], and then click [Next].
When the [Setup T ype] window appears, select [S tandard] or [Cust om], and then click
[Next].
Follow the instructions on the scr een and set the installation se ttings when you select [Custom].
When the [Ready to Install the P rogr am] window appears, click [Inst all].
The installation starts.
When the [Sound Organiz er has been installed succ essfully .] window appears, check
[Launch Sound Organiz er Now], and then click [Finish].
Note
Y ou may need to rest art your computer after installing Sound Or ganizer .
Note
If you format the built ‑in memory , all data stor ed there will be er ased. (The Help Guide and the Sound Organiz er
software will also be er ased.)
