Echzell
Baroque castle, replacement
for the moated castle built in
1864. Today it is home to the

This church was rst built
around the 7th or 8th
century on the foundation
walls of a Roman bath. It
contains a large 15 x 2 meter
wall painting of the Last
Judgment.
Kefenrod
First documented in 1377,
this church was consecrated
to St. Gangolf. The
Marienglocke dates from
1478. The North Gallery is
adorned with the twelve
apostles.
Around 1475 this church
above the village of
Bindsachsen was converted
into a fortied church. The
late Gothic choir tower
contains arrow loopholes.
This natural forest path leads
along the historic “Betten-
straße”. Rare animals such
as the dormouse can be
found.
Hirzenhain
The extensive exhibits at the
“Kunstgussmuseum” bring to
life more than 200 years of
the industrial age.
In one of the smallest
municipalities of the
Wetterauskreis you can nd
charming gardens, ponds,
and unique vistas.
This masterpiece of
late-Gothic stone carving
was conceived in the simple,
spacious contour of a
monastery church with a
three-yoked nave.
Glauburg
The “Keltenwelt” state
museum on the Glauberg -
built in 2011 with a burial
ground and a museum
garden. The original nds are
unparalleled worldwide. The
museum offers themed tours.
The former moated castle
“Hofgut Leustadt” in
Glauburg- Stockheim was
rst ofcially documented in
780 and is privately owned.
The Stockheim model railway
thrills the hearts of railroad
enthusiasts. The adjoined
“Kulturhalle” offers a wide
range of programs.
Münzenberg
The Stauferburg Münzenberg
is considered the landmark of
Wetterau. It is affectionately
known as the “Wetterauer
inkpot” and is widely visible.
The “Gallows” of Münzenberg
at night - a unique historic
venue in Wetterau. It was
used for the last time around
1800.
This synagogue was built just
before the 1848 German
revolution and was destroyed
in World War II. Since its
restoration in 2009, it has
been used for cultural
purposes.
Butzbach
The Landgrave and Solmser
castles were built on the
foun dation walls of a strong-
hold from the 8th century
near the remains of a Roman
fort.
Former ofce for the Counts
of Solms-Braunfels,
Financial administrative
ofces for the Landgraves of
Hesse-Darm stadt from 1741,
and municipal museum since
1994.
The historic town hall in the
marketplace was restored
and made barrier-free in
2011. Special ornaments can
be seen in the carillon tower
and the council chamber.
Rosbach v. d. Höhe
Moated castle from the 13th
and 14th century in
Nieder-Rosbach, during the
annual ower festival.
This historic fountain in the
half-timbered house section
of Ober-Rosbach is a local
gathering point.
The current church tower
dates back to the 13th
century. It is the oldest part
of the church and was once
used for defensive purposes.
Karben
Karben once had four mineral
sources. The most important was
the selzer fountain. Mineral
water was produced here until
1988.
This coat of arms can be found
in Degenfeld Castle. Built in
1728, the castle has been
privately owned since 2013.
The Lieselturm in Burg-Gräfen-
rode is the only surviving tower
of the Oberburg. This castle was
rst mentioned in 1429 and
served as the seat of the Carben
family.
Wölfersheim
The Wölfersheim Energy
Museum shows the history of
energy production from brown
coal up to modern renewable
energies.
The Wölfersheim Lake is the
largest in the Wetterau lake
district. It was created from an
open mining pit after the
decommissioning of the brown
coal mine in Wölfersheim.
This burial ground from the
Merovingian period was
discovered in spring 2015. Many
look forward to an exhibition of
the unique nds in the region.
Florstadt
The moated castle Ysenburg was
built over fragments of the old
castle of Staden and now houses
a hotel.
Replica of a tower of a former
castle on the Sauerborn, a
spring with iron-rich drinking
water.
In earlier times, this village
fountain in the old town center
was the heart of business and
market events. Today it adorns
the lovingly restored half-tim-
bered house quarter.
Limeshain
The Romans targeted the fertile
Wetterau to supply their troops
over 2,000 years ago. They
secured their new territory
through a borderwall, the
Limes.
This authentic reconstruction of
a Roman Watch Tower has been
open to view since August 2013.
This historic town hall has
shaped the image of the
Himbach village for 250 years
with its onion-domed bell
tower.
Friedberg 2
From 1958 to 1960, Elvis Presley
was stationed as a soldier in the
Ray Barracks in Friedberg, “The
Army Home of Elvis Presley”.
Since its revival as a park in
2010, the garden of the castle
Friedberg has become an
inviting place of retreat and
reection.
The Adolfsturm is the symbol of
the city of Friedberg and is one
of the largest keeps. The overall
castle layout is the largest in
Germany.
Nidda
The stone quarry in Michelnau is
unique in Europe. Embedded in
the Vogelsberg, the largest
volcanic landform in central
Europe, it contains rock outcrop-
pings and unique biologic
habitats well worth seeing.
This picturesque area is an
attractive excursion destination
with fantastic views in the
Vogelsberg and the Rhine-Main
region - including this volcanic
cone bathed in golden light.
Recently restored waterwheel in
the graduation tower in the spa
park Bad Salzhausen, one of the
oldest saltwater baths in Germa-
ny.
Gedern
The Baroque castle of Gedern
originated from the so-called
Wolframsburg of the 13th
century. It is a backdrop for
various events.
Gedern offers a lot of excursion
destinations as a health resort.
Among others, the Castle
Moritzstein has attractive
programs.
Lake Gedern is an idyllic holiday
destination. An annual
highlight: a lake festival with
reworks and live music on the
last weekend in July.
Ortenberg
The “Marienkirche” near the
castle has a signicant 15th
century altar and the best
acoustics for marvelous
concerts.
The Konradsdorf monastery is
one of the most signicant
Romanesque buildings from the
medieval period in Wetterau.

The castle of the “Lord of
Liebesberg” was rst document-
ed in 1222. The direct male line
went extinct as early as 1396.
Rockenberg
The Marienkirche monastery
church in Rockenberg was built
between 1746 and 1749 and is
now part of a prison.
Sandstone in the “Hölle von
Rockenberg” nature reserve.
Artifacts found in the sandstone
layers are exhibited in the
castle.
The three-arched bridge over
the Wetter at the southwestern
edge of the historical town
center was built around 1760 in
quarry stone.
Wöllstadt
In the village center there is a
town hall actively used by
many special interst groups
and clubs. A regional weekly
market is also held there.
From Wöllstadt you can make
your way to the Niddaroute
Regional Park. Large parts of
the Nidda have been restored
along the cycle path.
This protestant church is
characterized by the clear
sound of the bronze bell -
manufactured in 1830 in
Mainz.
Niddatal
Founded in 1231 by a
Cistercian order, this estate
now numbers about 60
inhabitants. Craftsmen and
artists are inspired by the
mediaeval ambience.
The abbey church of St. Peter
and St. Paul, consecrated in
1159, was built in the
Romanesque-basilica style.
The Maria chapel in Sternbach
was rst documented in 778.
The town of Sternbach
declined in the early Middle
Ages, after which Wickstadt
gained in importance.
Bad Vilbel
View of the moated castle,
once home to the Knights of
Vilbel, today a well-known
and esteemed festival venue.
The 1200 year history of this
town of spas and fountains is
brought to life by the tour
through historic Bad Vilbel.
The local history museum in
Bad Vilbel Massenheim was
reopened after renovation
work in 1999. Visitors can,
among other things, visit a
shoemaker exhibition.
Büdingen
View of the Schlossgasse in
the old town of Büdingen,
with shops, cafes and
restaurants.
The Jerusalem Gate and the
fortress walls are the true
symbol of Büdingen. The
well-known city Medieval
Festival attracts several
thousand visitors to this
historic setting.
Well house on the Herren-
haag, which was founded 250
years ago by the Herrenhuth
community and temporarily
inhabited by more than 1000
people.
Ranstadt
The “Little Chapel” built in
1731 in the heart of Bellmuth.
Simple half-timbered
con struction with wall
paintings of the 12 apostles in
the style of German folk art.
Rock hewn cellars in
Dauernheim, an ensemble of
about a hundred cellars, one
above another in three
layers. For the most part
privately owned.
The Neo-Gothic Town Hall of
Ranstadt (built in 1875) with
its clear style has a
distinctive character.
Altenstadt
The Schwarzer Adler Hotel is
characteristic of the town
with its magnicent,
traditional, half-timbered
construction.
The Nidder meadows are
often ooded in the winter
months and suggest a lake
landscape.
The abbey of Engelthal was
founded in 1268 as the
Cistercian monastery of St.
Mary in the Valley of the
Angels. At present, 17 Sisters
live in the community.
Ober-Mörlen
The castle of Ober-Mörlen is
now the seat of the town hall.
It was built in 1589 and,
thanks to its location on the
river Usa, offers an ideal
location for markets and art
exhibitions.
The Ober-Mörlen carnival
parade is the most famous
and most traditional in
Wetterau region.
Opened in 1974, Ober-Mörlen
is a popular excursion
destination. Flight
operations take place mainly
on weekends and holidays.
Reichelsheim
This commercial and private
aireld is also a support
station for the Christof
Mittelhessen helicopter
air-rescue service as well as a
popular excursion destina-
tion with restaurant.
This historic town hall was
built between 1570 and 1576
and served as a shopping
center at that time. Today it
offers a historical setting for
wedding ceremonies.
Lake Teufel and Lake Pfaffen
are part of the Wetterauer
Lake District and were former
mining pits. They are now a
valuable recreational area for
the region.
