Kefenrod
Firs t documented in 137 7 ,
this church was consecr ated
to St. Gangolf. The
Mar ienglocke dates from
1 4 78. The North Galler y is
adorned with t he twelve
apostles.
Around 1 4 7 5 this church
above the village of
Bindsachsen was conver ted
into a for tied church. The
late Gothic choir tower
contains ar row loopholes.
This natural fores t path leads
along the hist or ic “Betten-
str aße”. Rare animals such
as the dormouse can be
found.
Hirzenhain
The extensive e xhibits at the
“Kunstgussmuseum” br ing t o
life more than 200 years of
the industr ial age.

Glauburg
The “Keltenwelt” stat e
museum on the Glauberg -
built in 201 1 with a bur ial
ground and a museum
garden. The original nds are
unparalleled worldwide. The
museum of fer s themed tours.
The former moated cas tle
“Hofgut Leust adt” in
Glauburg- Stockheim was
rst ofcially documented in
7 80 and is pr iv ately owned.
The Stockheim model railway
thr ills t he hear ts of railroad
enthusiasts. The adjoined
“Kulturhalle” of f ers a wide
range of programs.
Münzenberg
The Stauferburg Münzenberg
is considered the landmark of
Wetterau. It is af f ectionately
known as the “Wetter auer
inkpot” and is widely visible.
The “Gallows” of Münzenberg
at night - a unique histor ic
venue in Wetterau. It was
used for the las t time around
1800.
This synagogue was built just
before the 1848 German
revolution and was destroyed
in World War II. Since its
restor ation in 2009, it has
been used for cultural
purposes.
Butzbach

castles were built on the

This histor ic fount ain in the
half-timbered house section
of Ober-R osbach is a local
gather ing point.
The current church tower
dates back to the 13th
centur y. It is the oldest par t
of the church and was once
used for defensive purposes.
Karben
Karben once had four miner al
sources. The most impor t ant was
the selzer fount ain. Mineral
water was produced here until
1988.
This coat of arms can be found
in Degenfeld Castle. Built in
1 7 28, the cas tle has been
pr ivately owned since 2013.
The Lieselturm in Burg-Gräf en-
rode is the only sur viving tower
of the Oberburg. This castle w as
rst mentioned in 1429 and
ser ved as the seat of the Carben
f amily.
Wölfersheim
The Wölfersheim Energy
Museum shows the his tor y of
energy production from brown
coal up to modern renew able
energies.
The Wölfersheim Lake is the
largest in the Wetter au lake
distr ict. It w as created from an
open mining pit af ter t he
decommissioning of the brown
coal mine in Wölfersheim.
This bur ial ground from the
Merovingian per iod was
discovered in spring 2015. Many
look for ward to an e xhibition of
the unique nds in the region.
Florstadt
The moated castle Ysenburg was
built over fragments of the old
castle of Staden and now houses
a hotel.
Replica of a tower of a former
castle on the Sauerbor n, a
spr ing with iron-r ich dr inking
water .
In earlier times, this village
fount ain in the old town center
was the hear t of business and
market events. T oday it adorns
the lovingly restored half-tim-
bered house quar ter .
Limeshain
The Romans targeted t he fer tile
Wetterau to supply their troops
over 2,000 years ago. They
secured their new terr itor y
through a border wall, t he
Limes.
This authentic reconstr uction of
a Roman Watch T ower has been
open to view since August 2013.

From 1 958 to 1960, Elvis Presley
was st ationed as a soldier in t he
Ray Barr acks in Fr iedberg, “ The
Army Home of Elvis Presley”.
Since its revival as a park in
201 0, the garden of the castle
Fr iedberg has become an
inviting place of retreat and
reection.
The Adolfs turm is the symbol of
the city of Fr iedberg and is one
of the largest keeps. The overall
castle layout is the larges t in
Germany.
Nidda
The stone quar r y in Michelnau is
unique in Europe. Embedded in
the Vogelsberg, the largest
volcanic landform in centr al
Europe, it contains rock outcrop-
pings and unique biologic
habitats well wor th seeing.
This picturesque area is an
attractive excursion des tination
with f ant astic views in t he
Vog elsberg and the Rhine-Main
region - including this volcanic
cone bathed in golden light.
Recently restored water wheel in
the graduation tower in t he spa
park Bad Salzhausen, one of the
oldest saltwat er baths in Germa-
ny.
Gedern
The Baroque castle of Gedern
or iginated from the so-called
Wolframsburg of the 13th
centur y. It is a backdrop for
var ious events.
Gedern of fers a lot of e xcursion
destinations as a health resor t.
Among others, t he Castle
Mor itzstein has attr active
programs.
Lake Gedern is an idyllic holiday
destination. An annual
highlight: a lake festiv al with
reworks and live music on t he
last weekend in July.
Ortenberg
The “Mar ienkirche” near the
castle has a signicant 15th
centur y alt ar and the bes t
acoustics for mar velous
concer ts.
The Konradsdor f monast er y is
one of the most signicant
Romanesque buildings from the
medieval per iod in Wetter au.

Liebesberg” was rs t document-
ed in 1222. The direct male line
went extinct as early as 1396.
Rockenberg
The Mar ienkirche monaster y
church in Rockenberg was built
between 1 7 46 and 1 7 49 and is
now par t of a pr ison.

Ar tif acts found in the sands tone
layers are exhibited in t he
castle.
The three-arched br idge over
the Wetter at the sout hwestern
edge of the hist or ical town
center was built around 17 60 in
quarr y s tone.
Wöllstadt
In the village center there is a
town hall actively used by
many special interst groups
and clubs. A regional weekly
market is also held there.
From Wöllstadt you can make
your way to the Niddaroute
Regional Park. Large par ts of
the Nidda have been restored
along the cycle path.
This protest ant church is
character ized by the clear
sound of the bronze bell -
manuf actured in 1830 in
Mainz.
Niddatal
Founded in 123 1 by a
Cistercian order , this est ate
now numbers about 60
inhabitants. Cr af tsmen and
ar tists are inspired by t he
mediaeval ambience.
The abbey church of St. Peter
and St. Paul, consecrated in
1 159, was built in the
Romanesque-basilica style.
The Mar ia chapel in Sternbach
was rs t documented in 77 8.
The town of Sternbach
declined in the early Middle
Ages, af ter which W icks t adt
gained in impor tance.
Bad Vilbel
View of t he moated castle,
once home to the Knights of
Vilbel, today a well-known
and esteemed fes tival venue.
The 1200 year histor y of this
town of spas and fount ains is
brought to life by the t our
through hist or ic Bad Vilbel.
The local histor y museum in
Bad Vilbel Massenheim was
reopened af ter renovation
work in 1999. Visitors can,
among other things, visit a
shoemaker exhibition.
Büdingen

Altenstadt
The Schwar zer Adler Hotel is
character istic of the t own
with its magnicent,
traditional, half-timbered
construction.
The Nidder meadows are
of ten ooded in t he winter
months and suggest a lake
landscape.
The abbey of Engelthal was
founded in 1268 as the
Cistercian monas ter y of St.
Mar y in the Valley of t he
Angels. At present, 1 7 Sisters
live in the community.
Ober-Mörlen
The castle of Ober-Mörlen is
now the seat of the town hall.
It was built in 1589 and,
thank s to its location on the
r iver Usa, of fer s an ideal
location for markets and ar t
exhibitions.
The Ober-Mörlen carnival
parade is the mos t f amous
and most tr aditional in
Wetterau region.
Opened in 19 7 4, Ober-Mörlen
is a popular excursion
destination. Flight
operations t ake place mainly
on weekends and holidays.
Reichelsheim
This commercial and pr ivate
aireld is also a suppor t
st ation for the Chr istof
Mittelhessen helicopter
air-rescue service as well as a
popular excursion des tina-
tion with rest aur ant.
This histor ic town hall was
built between 15 70 and 15 7 6
and ser ved as a shopping
center at that time. Toda y it
of fer s a histor ical setting for
wedding ceremonies.
Lake T eufel and Lake Pfaf fen
are par t of the Wetterauer
Lake Distr ict and were for mer
mining pits. They are now a
valuable recreational area for
the region.
