Game Set Up
Decide which side of the game board you want to
play. Put the 2 pieces of the game board together for
that side and place it in the middle of your playing
area.
Place the hiker on Friedberg.
Sort the cards using the colored backs. Only use the
cards that match the side of the game board you
have chosen. Put the remaining cards back into the
box.
Shufe the cards thoroughly and deal each player a
hand of 4 cards. Each player may look at their hand
but should keep it secret from the other players.
Place the remaining cards as a face down draw deck
next to the game board.
Goal of the Game
In this game you will be hiking through the cities
and communities of the Wetterau. The catch: Players
guide a single hiker along the paths trying to direct
the hiker to locations that match the cards they
have in their hand.
If the hiker reaches a location that you have 1 or
more of in your hand of cards, you may place them
face up in front of you. Whoever has played the most
cards at the end of the game wins.
Game Play
The youngest player starts the game, then play pro-
gresses clockwise. On your turn, you must perform
at least 1 of the 2 following actions. You may also
perform both actions in the order listed:
1. Move the Hiker
2. Play Location Cards
Move the Hiker
Move the hiker further along the path 1 location in
the direction of your choice.
If you have 2 (or even 3) cards of the same location
in your hand, you may move the hiker 2 (or even 3)
spaces. However, you may only do so if you reach the
respective location.
Play Location Cards
If the hiker is on a location whose card(s) you have
in your hand, place the card(s) in a face up stack in
front of you.
Then, draw as many new cards from the draw deck
as you have played so that you again have 4 cards in
your hand.
In summary: you may play cards in front of you for
the location where the hiker is already standing.
In this case the hiker does not move and the game
continues with the next player. If you cannot play
any cards in the current location, you must move the
hiker. Then you may play cards for the newly reached
location if you can.
Game End
When a player draws the last card from the draw
deck, the end of the game is triggered.
From now on no new cards can be drawn. The game
continues until 1 player plays his last card(s) in
front of them. Then all other players must discard
their unplayed cards into the box. They do not
count.
Players now count the number of location cards they
have played. The player with the most cards in their
stack wins.
If more than one player has collected the most loca-
tion cards, they share the victory.
You may never move the hiker back along the path
towards the location he last came from. As a re-
minder, always place the hiker in a location so that
his back is facing the last location he has come
from on the path.
Special Case: If may happen that players keep
moving the hiker in a circle without any player
being able to play cards. In this case, if no player
wants to move the hiker out of this circle, the game
ends immediately.
1 double-sided game board (in 2 pieces) 78 cards, 39 cards for each side of the game board.
The color of the card backs matches the corresponding side of
the game board to use.

Wetterau
The ancient Romans knew
and appreciated the “Golden
Wetterau” region. The origin
of its name is made clear when
looking at the glowing, gold-
en-yellow grain elds there.
The Wetterau is an extremely
fertile region geographically
bounded in the east by the
Vogelsberg, in the west by the
Taunus range, in the north by the city of Giessen, and
in the south by Frankfurt am Main. Numerous rivers
and streams that originate in the Vogelsberg and the
Taunus range ow through the oodplain landscape.
Whether it was the river Wetter that gave the Wetter-
au its name or whether the name may have come from
the designation “weit Au” (wide oodplain) is open
to discussion.
Due to an exceptionally mild climate, particularly
fertile soils, and a widespread network of waters,
people were already settling in this region thousands
of years ago. The Wetterau is one of the oldest cultur-
al landscapes in Germany and was rst documented
in the Codex Aureus of Lorsch in 779. Even the Limes
(Roman border fortications) stretched through
the Wetterau landscape and are still visible today in
partial preservation.
The Wetterau is a true treasure trove for explorers:
billowing cornelds, blossoming cherry trees, green
meadows, dark forests, pastures and rivers, quarries
with unusual stones, snow covered hills, grapes and
strawberries, kingshers and cranes, and salty hot
springs from the depths of the earth.
Here there is something for everyone; and above all,
traces of our ancestors are evident everywhere.
Celts, Romans, and the Middle Ages have all left
behind plenty of evidence to explore. Follow me into
one of the oldest cultural landscapes in Europe – the
Wetterau!
From the spectacular Celtic nds on the Glauberg,
through the numerous castles and palaces, to the ex-
citing stories surrounding Castle Münzenberg - there
is much to discover.
As an example, it would certainly give one pleasure to
ramble down historical paths and recreate stories of
the past in the town of Büdingen, strongly inuenced
by the Middle Ages.
The Wetterau game presents all players, big and
small, old and young, with the challenge of matching
location cards to the appropriate places. In addition
to learning about our region, children may also learn
about observing the rules, playing well together, and
also how to win, as well as how to lose.
Discover the Golden Wetterau – because the good
things are so close. Go on your own trip of discovery
with the Wetterau game.
I cordially invite you.
