Main menu
After successfully logging in, you will be redirected to the main menu of your NAS. The main
menu gives you access to all functions and features.
1. Quick start
Das Quick start menu combines the two most important categories:
1.1 Disks & volumes
This menu allows you to configure the inserted hard disk drives or solid state drives and add
combine them to create different volume types. All hard disks will be formatted during this
operation. All data will be erased. You can choose from several different volume types:
Single Disk Volume:
The selected drive(s) will be initialized as indepentant single volume(s).
Linear Volume:
The selected drive(s) will be added to a linear volume (mind. 2 drives).
RAID 0 (striping): The selected drive(s) will be added to a stripe RAID array, which will
improve disk performance. The downside of RAID 0 is that in case of a defective drive, ALL
data will be lost (at least 2 drives requires).
RAID 1 (mirroring): A RAID 1 array stores you data on both disks. In case of a defective hard
drive, your data is still available on the second drive. The capacity of one hard drive will be
unusable (2 or 4 drives required).
RAID 5: When using this array type, your data will be distributed through all selected drives.
You can automatically restore your data in case of a defective drive. About 33% of all drives
capacity will be consumed by parity data and will not be usable. (at least 3 drives required).
NOTE: RAID 1 and RAID 4 arrays protect your data against one defective hard disk drive,
only. Faulty drives should be replaced immediately. RAID does not protect your data against
computer viruses or accidently deleting files. Always store your important data on a second
device, for example your PC.
NOTE: All settings cannot be changed, unless at least one volume is set up properly. Always
start with setting up your hard disk drives.
1.2 Network
This menu shows your current TCP/IP network settings and allows you to change them. Your
NAS is preconfigured for automatic network configuration with a DHCP server. In this mode,
your NAS will obtain all required settings automatically, usually from your router Advanced
users can change these settings as required. WARNING: Wrong network settings can render
your NAS unreachable. In this case, use the reset button at the back of your NAS to load
factory default settings.
