Thank you for choosing Marshall and congratulations on the purchase of your British
made, all-valve, 30 Watt Astoria Classic AST1C combo or AST1H head. Our goal with
the Astoria Classic was simple: create a single channel amplier with the purity of
hand wired clean valve sound, classic tonal function and contemporary switching.
We sincerely hope that your Astoria Classic will provide you with countless hours of
tone.
- The Marshall Team
Your Astoria Classic has been expertly
crafted and is designed, engineered and
constructed to the highest possible
standards at the Marshall factory in
Bletchley, England. Its all-valve heart
comprises of: 3 x ECC83 (12AX7) in the
preamp, a GZ34 rectier, and 2 x KT66
in the output stage, which is cathode
biased with no negative feedback. This
is a characteristic of many classic,
vintage ampliers.
The Astoria Classic combines a 100%
hand wired signal path with modern
Power Reduction. To achieve this
innovative marriage of authentic tonal
character and contemporary switching
capability the Astoria Classic uses
turrets mounted on the PCB – allowing
the hand wiring and the more complex
switching circuitry to elegantly co-exist
on a single board.
The Sensitivity control adjusts negative
feedback in the preamp, and the Edge
control determines how bright or dark
the amplier sounds overall. To further
enhance your tonal palette, the front
panel Power Reduction pull switch drops
output power from 30 Watts to 5 Watts,
producing warmer, softer tones.
The Astoria Classic will appeal to purists
who want authentic clean all-valve
tone, and to boutique pedal enthusiasts
who will nd it the perfect pure-valve
foundation for their sound.
The Astoria Classic combo features a
12” custom-voiced Celestion Creamback
speaker, as does the optional AST1-112
speaker cabinet, which is designed to
match either the AST1H head, or the
AST1C combo as an extension speaker
cabinet.
