Introduction
Tock-Poker is a special practice version of poker. The difference between normal
playing cards and Tock-Poker cards is that the backs of the cards are marked.
These marks help beginners to learn the game. Using these marks, you can esti-
mate which cards are in play. By watching carefully, you learn to assess the value
of your hand compared to those of the other players.
The marks
The marks show two things:
- If the card is a heart, spade, diamond or club?
- If it is a low or high card?
The ace is marked as an ace and the larger the symbol, the more the card is
worth.
There are three different sizes:
• Small
The face value of the card is 2, 3, 4 or 5.
• Medium
The face value of the card is 6, 7, 8 or 9.
• Large
The face value of the card is 10, J, Q or K. J = ‘Jack’,
Q = ‘Queen’, K = ‘King’.
• Ace
The ace is the only card which is fully recognisable.
The ace may be used as 1 or 11 in the game.
Preparations:
As with standard Texas Hold’em, the ‘Buy-in’ must be determined for all the play-
ers. This is the fi xed number of poker chips that each player can buy at the start of
the game. The total number of poker chips can also be divided evenly between all
the players.
The dealer is then determined by drawing cards. The player drawing the highest
card is the fi rst dealer. The dealer position moves clockwise one player with each
new hand. The dealer is identifi ed by the dealer button placed on the table in
front of the dealer.
