128-bits WEP
Als reactie op de potentieel kwetsbare beveiliging van 64-bits WEP
werd een veiliger methode van 128-bits encryptie ontwikkeld. 128-bits
encryptie bestaat uit een sleutellengte van 104 bits plus 24 extra bits
van door de computer gegenereerde data (128 bits totaal). Sommige
hardwarefabrikanten verwijzen naar 128-bits als 104-bits encryptie.
De meeste nieuwe draadloze apparatuur die momenteel op de markt is,
ondersteunt zowel 64-bits als 128-bits encryptie wat niet uitsluit dat u
oudere apparatuur bezit die alleen 64-bits WEP ondersteunt. Alle draadloze
Belkin apparatuur ondersteunt zowel 64-bits als 128.bits WEP.
Encryptiesleutels
Nadat u de 64-bits of 128-bits WEP-encryptiemodus hebt gekozen, moet
u een encryptiesleutel aanmaken. Als de encryptiesleutel niet consequent
in uw gehele draadloze netwerk gebruikt wordt, kunnen de op het netwerk
aangesloten apparaten niet goed met elkaar communiceren.
U kunt de sleutel invoeren door de hexadecimale sleutel handmatig in te
typen of u kunt een “Passphrase” (Meervoudig wachtwoord) intypen in
het daarvoor bestemde veld en klikken op “Generate” (Genereren) om een
sleutel te maken. Een hexadecimale sleutel is een combinatie van cijfers en
letters van A tot F en 0 tot 9. Voor 64-bits WEP dient u 10 hexadecimale
sleutels in te voeren. Voor 128-bits WEP dient u 26 hexadecimale sleutels
in te voeren.
Bijvoorbeeld:
AF 0F 4B C3 D4 = 64-bits WEP-sleutel
C3 03 0F AF 0F 4B B2 C3 D4 4B C3 D4 E7 = 128-bits WEP-sleutel
De WEP-passphrase is NIET hetzelfde als een WEP-sleutel. Uw
netwerkkaart gebruikt deze passphrase om uw WEP-sleutels aan te maken,
maar de methode voor het aanmaken van sleutels is per hardwarefabrikant
verschillend. Als uw netwerk uit apparaten van verschillende leveranciers
is opgebouwd, kunt u het best de HEX WEP-sleutel van uw router of
accesspoint aanhouden en deze met de hand invoeren in de tabel van HEX
WEP-sleutels in het configuratiescherm van uw kaart.
