Ongeveer 20% van de zwangere vrouwen ontwikkelt hoge bloeddruk (pre-eclampsie of toxemie), die van invloed kan
zijn op de zwangerschap. Pre-eclampsie is doorgaans te herkennen aan een duidelijke stijging van de bloeddruk en aan
hoge eiwitconcentraties in de urine na 20 weken zwangerschap. Aangezien veel oscillometrische apparaten ongeschikt
zijn gebleken voor gebruik tijdens de zwangerschap en bij pre-eclampsie, eisen zorgautoriteiten dat bloeddrukmonitoren
voor deze kwetsbare patiëntengroep speciek worden gekeurd. De Welch Allyn ProBP 2400 digitale bloeddrukmeter heeft
deze keuring met succes doorstaan en mag daarom worden aanbevolen voor gebruik tijdens de zwangerschap en bij pre-
eclampsie.
