organism activity and so stimulates the growth of aquatic plants. Biological filtration is recommen-
ded when plant growth is stagnating and algae development excessive. Initially filtration will be
mechanical only, but in time the materials will become biologically active through the growth of
micro-organisms. You can kick-start this process by adding a dose of Bacterial or Biobac to the
filter materials.
THE VEX POND FILTERS
The VEX Pond Filter is an ideal, trouble-free filter system for your pond. It has several advantages
over other systems. The capacity of the "active components", and hence the filter's purifying capa-
bility, is greater than in common filter types. Both the mechanical and the biological functions are
combined in this filter. The filter materials used render both functions highly effective. The filter has
a built-in UV-C Unit and a dirt indicator. The filter also remains watertight under pressure and has
no difficulty pumping up water to a height of 3 metres (depending on the pump output). Connecting
up the filter is very easy. In short, with this purchase you will make your pond clearer and healthier.
The VEX Pond Filter cleans the water in the pond in three stages.
! The first stage is mechanical. The visible dirt particles are removed by three layers of foam filter
material graded from coarse to fine.
! The second stage is biological. The growth of micro-organisms is encouraged through the use
of so-called bio-filter balls. These micro-organisms remove organic components from the pond
water.
! The third stage consists of UV-C treatment of the water. The UV-C light kills germs and floating
algae. The result is clear, healthy pond water.
There are three types of VEX Pond Filter:
! VEX-100 with a net filter volume of approx. 10 litres and suitable for ponds up to 6,000 litres,
with a built-in 7 Watt UV-C Unit.
! VEX-200 with a net filter volume of approx. 20 litres and suitable for ponds up to 10,000 litres,
with a built-in 9 Watt UV-C Unit.
! VEX-300 with a net filter volume of approx. 30 litres and suitable for ponds up to 15,000 litres,
with a built-in 11 Watt UV-C Unit.
PLEASE NOTE
! The filter is solely intended for use in garden ponds.
! The filter is not suitable for filtering water warmer than 40 °C.
! Do not use in combination with oil, petrol or lubricants. The filter is not frost-resistant.
It is therefore recommended that the filter should not be used during the winter months.
! The filter must not be used submerged.
INSTALLATION
The VEX filters are supplied complete with all the necessary filter materials, which should be care-
fully rinsed before use. Place the bio-filter balls at the bottom of the filter and on top of them the grid
holding the inner cylinder. On top of this place the foam filter rings, going from fine to coarse. Posi-
tion the lid and close the filter using the clamp supplied. Assembled correctly, the filter is watertight
up to a working pressure of at least 0.5 bar.
