Vehicle security
Electric windows:
Driver’s window is operated via switch in
driver’s door.
For incremental operation, briefly pull or
press switch.
For automatic opening or closing, pull or
press switch for longer. Pull or press
again to stop movement.
To open completely, locate safety catch
on underside of bonnet, push catch
upwards and lift bonnet gently. The
bonnet is held open automatically.
To close bonnet, lower it gradually and
allow it to fall into lock under its own
weight.
The passenger door windows are
operated by a switch in each door or the
respective switch in the driver’s door.
To open window, press switch and to
close, pull up switch. The window stops
when the switch is released.
The rear windows do not open fully.
Unlock and open tailgate:
Press button q on remote control unit,
- or - To unlock from inside the vehicle,
press central locking switch

door.
Tailgate is unlocked together with doors
and can be opened by operating button
above number plate and lifting tailgate.
Instruments and controls
Always ensure that the doors, bonnet,
tailgate, sunroof 3 and windows are
properly closed and that there are no
passengers left in the vehicle before
locking with the remote control and
activating the anti-theft alarm system 3.
Press p button on remote control unit
again within 3 seconds of locking to
activate mechanical anti-theft locking
system 3. Lock buttons on all doors are
positioned such that doors cannot be
opened. Therefore, do not use the
system if there are people in the vehicle.
The doors cannot be unlocked from
inside.
Electronic immobiliser:
z Deactivated when key is in ignition.
z Activated when key is removed.
Engine cannot be started in any other
way, so keep spare key in a safe place!
Starting the engine:
Manual transmission in neutral,
depress clutch and footbrake,
(automatic transmission 3 in P or N),
do not accelerate.
Petrol engines: turn key to START and
release it.
Diesel engines: turn key to ON, when
preheating control indicator ! goes
out, turn key to START and release it.
(Preheating control indicator !
illuminates in instrument cluster only if
outside temperature is low).
Key returns automatically to ON
position when released.
Start attempts should not last longer
than 15 seconds. If engine does not
start, wait 10 seconds before repeating
starting procedure.
The increased engine speed
automatically returns to normal idling
speed as the engine temperature rises.
Drive at a moderate speed, especially in
cold weather, until normal engine
operating temperatures have been
reached.

Unlocking:
Press q button on remote control unit
- or -
To unlock from inside the vehicle, press
central locking switch

The doors, tailgate and tank flap are
unlocked.
Locking:
Press p button on remote control unit
- or -
To lock from inside the vehicle, close
doors and tailgate and press central
locking switch
m in driver’s door.
The doors, tailgate and tank flap are
locked.
Automatic transmission 3,
Winter programme:
In the event of difficulties starting-off on
icy and slippery surfaces, press WINTER
(or n) button. Vehicle sets off in 3rd
gear to reduce slipping and loss of
traction.
Refuelling:
Press button q on remote control unit,
- or - press central locking switch

driver’s door to unlock tank flap.
Open tank flap, unlock filler cap by
turning it anticlockwise, remove and
place in holder on inside of tank flap.
Refuelling (continued):
Fuel tank has a limiting system which
prevents overfilling. Before refuelling,
switch off engine and any heating
systems with combustion chambers.
Switch off mobile phones.
To close, replace filler cap and turn
clockwise until several clicks are heard,
close tank flap and wipe off any
overflowing fuel immediately.
Petrol engines - use unleaded fuel only.
Diesel engines - use diesel fuel meeting
specifications of DIN EN 590.
Fuel tank capacity - 65 litres.
Engine oil: Check every 300 miles or prior
to long journeys.
Important:
It is the owner’s responsibility
to maintain the correct level of an
appropriate quality oil in the engine.
Close and lock tailgate:
There is a handle on the inside of the
tailgate to assist when closing. Close
tailgate by pushing it down so it latches
securely. To lock tailgate, together with
the doors:
Press button p on remote control unit
- or -
To lock from inside the vehicle, press
central locking switch
m in driver’s door.
Slide / tilt sunroof 3:
To open: Press switch rearwards, it
opens automatically unless switch is
pressed again or released.
To close: Press and hold switch forwards.
Release when desired position is
reached
.
To tilt: Press and hold switch upwards.
Release when desired position is
reached.
Bonnet release:
To open bonnet, pull release lever
/
located below instrument panel.
The bonnet will then be unlocked and
will partially open. Return release lever
to its original position.
Do not pull release lever while the vehicle
is moving.
Manual transmission:
1 to 5 = 1st to 5th gear
R = Reverse gear
Only engage reverse gear when the
vehicle is stationary.
Automatic transmission 3:
Starting is only possible in P or N.
To move from P or N; switch on ignition,
depress footbrake and press selector
lever button. To engage P or R; press
selector lever button.
P: Only with vehicle stationary,
first apply handbrake.
R: Only with vehicle stationary.
Automatic transmission 3,
Manual mode:
Move selector lever out of position D
(to the left) into manual gate,
then forwards or backwards.
+ Shift to a higher gear
- Shift to a lower gear
Tip selector lever in the appropriate
direction. It then returns to centre
position.

Releasing the handbrake:
Raise lever slightly, press lock button
and lower lever fully. Handbrake release
is audibly confirmed.
To reduce operating forces, depress
footbrake at the same time.
