Game overview
During spring, we have planted our vegetable garden. Earth,
sun and rain have all supported the crop’s growth. We have
removed weeds and we have watered the plants when needed.
Now summer has arrived and the garden is fi lled with delicious
vegetables. Harvest time!
We will be harvesting from our own garden, and we will help
the other players with the harvest of their crops. Slowly, the
warm summer gives way to the cold winter. Will we succeed in
harvesting all the vegetables before winter has arrived?
Contents
Game board, game rules, 12 tomatoes, 12 carrots, 12 beans,
12 sweetcorn, 6 spring cards (puzzle pieces), 6 winter cards
(puzzle pieces), 1 special die with colour dots.
Preparations
Put the game board on the table.
Divide the 4 gardens between the players. If more than 4 are
playing, take care of a garden together. With less then 4, take
care of two gardens alone.
Plant each garden with 3 tomatoes, 3 carrots, 3 beans and
3 sweetcorn.
Put the 6 winter cards next to the game board. The spring
cards are not needed in this game.
Decide together who will be the fi rst to play. For example the
player that has most recently visited a vegetable garden or a
farm.
Playing
1. In turns, throw the die.
2. Red, orange, green or yellow: Harvest one vegetable of
that colour. Red=tomato, orange=carrot, green=bean,
yellow=sweetcorn. Take the card from the game board and
put it in front of you.
3. Black: The colour of the earth. You may now choose any
vegetable to harvest.
4. White: It gets colder, winter is coming! This turn you cannot
harvest anything. Instead, take a winter card. Put it at the
right place on top of the summer picture.
5. You can harvest from your own garden, or you can choose to
help another player with harvesting: “Would you like help?”.
Take a card from the other garden and give it to the keeper of
this garden. You may even do this when you still have these
vegetables in your own garden. In this game, it can be very
smart to help each other in this way!
6. If you throw a colour that you cannot use in any way, then
you may throw again.
7. As soon as the last vegetable in a garden is harvested,
something special happens: the keeper of the empty garden
may remove a winter card and put it back next to the game
board.
8. When your own garden is empty, you keep throwing the die.
You can still help the other players with harvesting.
Game end
The game can end in two ways:
All vegetables are harvested before winter arrives: Hurray, a
great harvest season!
The winter puzzle is completed before all vegetables are
harvested. Now it has become too cold to harvest. How many
vegetables have you harvested? How could you reach a better
result next time?
Easy game
In the basic game, players always put a winter piece on the board
when throwing a white dot. For an easier game you can agree
that all players with an empty garden do not need to add any
more winter pieces.
The planting game
This is a longer game in which the spring puzzle is also used. It is
especially suited for older children that already know the basic
game.
1. First, assemble the spring puzzle on the centre of the game
board, on top of the summer picture. The 4 gardens stay
empty for now.
2. Then, throw the die in turns to plant vegetables. The colours
now indicate which vegetable may be planted. You can also
help other players with planting.
3. White now indicates the removal of a spring piece. It is slowly
getting summer.
4. As soon as a garden is completely planted, the garden keeper
may put one spring piece back on the board, so that you get
more time for planting.
5. When your own garden is completely planted, you still keep
rolling the die to help the other players with planting.
6. The planting game ends when all vegetables are planted or all
spring pieces are removed from the board.
7. Any remaining spring cards are removed from the board. Now
you can proceed with the harvesting game. Of course, only
vegetables that have been planted can now be harvested!
