03203-0389 2008 BY REVELL GmbH & CO. KG PRINTED IN GERMANY
zen. Ab 1944 lief der sowjetischen Panzertruppe der in Serie
hergestellte T-34-85 zu, der mit einer 85 mm/L 54,6 ZiS-S-53
Kanone zur Erhöhung der Feuerkraft ausgerüstet war. Rechts
In zahlreiche
niedrigen Temperaturen trainiert.
The T-34 armoured combat vehicle, which was introduced into
the Soviet Army in 1940, was made in large numbers and is
one of the best known tanks of World War II. For the condi-
tions obtaining at that time, it was an outstanding combina-
tion of armoured protection, fire power and manoeuvrability.
The German side was unable to produce a comparable oppo-
nent to the T-34 until 1943 with the Tiger and the Panther.
From 1944 onwards the Soviet tank units were supplied with
the mass-produced T-34-85, which was equipped with an 85
mm/L 54, 6 ZiS-S-53 cannon to increase its fire power.
Mounted coaxially to the right of the cannon was a 7.62 mm
DTM machine gun. A further DTM MG was mounted in an
aperture in the nose of the vehicle. The T-34-85 was driven by
a 500 hp 12 cylinder V-2-34 four-stroke Diesel engine. The
maximum road speed was approx. 50 km/h, approx. 30 km/h
across country. It had a combat weight of 35,000 kg and car-
ried a 5 man crew. Exported to many countries throughout
the world, the T-34-85 remained in use with the troops long
after World War II and well into the nineties.
Apart from the harshness and rigours of the Russian winter it
was especially the deployment of Siberian divisions which
thwarted German plans to conquer Moskow by the end of
1941. In contrast with the German Army, the Siberian units
benefited from special winter clothing and were trained to
operate at low temperatures.
