olympischen Spielen eingesetzt. Dabei gilt der Laser als strikte
One-Design-Bootsklasse, was Veränderungen untersagt.
Viele hundert Segelclubs bieten Laser Segelwettbewerbe an.
Regatten.
The Laser is the world’s most popular sailing dinghy. Over 190,000
Laser dinghies are sailing in over 120 countries. Exciting to sail,
Laser racing and Laser dinghies are found in nearly every sailing
club in the world. The boat designed in 1969 as an easy manage-
able fun dinghy-boat was used at the Olympic games in 1996 for
the first time. Therefore the laser is to be classified as a strict one-
design boat class which interdicts alterations. With this uniformity
of the boats the preconditions are the same for all sailors and in
the end at the competition only their sailing knowledge is decisi-
ve and not the technical equipment. Every Laser is handbuilt to
precise quality control procedures. Each element of the boat con-
forms to strict one-design specifications. From local club racing to
International and Olympic competition the Laser Radial is raced
throughout the world.
Hundreds of sailing clubs offer a Laser racing programme. Most
clubs race at weekends with the season starting in spring and run-
ning until the end of autumn. Laser club sailing is enjoyed by thou-
sands of weekend sailors, who keep their Laser at the club just a
few meters from the water. It’s a convenient option and with rig-
ging taking a matter of minutes, means that Laser sailing can be
enjoyed by those with limited free time. Laser Qualifier Regattas
are open to all Laser Sailors, a chance to rub shoulders with the big
names. Always held at a top venue, these regattas have earned a
reputation for quality racing and excellent race management.
Laser Qualifier Regattas are used to select teams for international
events where pre-qualification is required. In addition national
Laser championships and international Laser regattas are held.
