Avro RJ 85 Avro RJ 85
Hohe Einsatzbereitschaft, moderne Avionik, flexible Kabinenaufteilung
Anlagen in Woodford.
Exemplare gebaut. Die RJ85 hat eine Spannweite von 26,34 m, eine
Länge von 28,56 m und eine Höhe von 8,61 m.
The Avro Regional Jet RJ-85 is one of the safest and most economical
short-haul passenger aircraft. It derived from the substantially upgra-
ded BAe 146-200 and received the additional designation
Jumbolino”. The RJ-85 is distinguished by its high operational efficien-
cy, modern avionics, flexible cabin configuration and the reliability of
four engines. It has been flying since 1992 and has a capacity of 85 to
100 passengers and a range of 2,600 km.
The Avro RJ series of four engined airliners began life with the Hawker
Siddeley HS 146 feeder liner project launched in 1973. At this time the
commercial prospects for the HS146 were very promising; unfortuna-
tely the world oil crisis of 1974 caused a recession in the air transport
market and the project was virtually shelved until conditions improved.
Hawker Siddeley became part of the nationalised British Aerospace
Corporation, which in 1978 saw fit to reactivate the project. The use of
four small fan-jet engines rather than two more powerful power
plants gives improved safety margins and also makes the BAe 146
family exceptionally quiet, enabling it to operate into city centre air-
fields within the very stringent noise limits. In the early 1990s BAe ope-
ned a second production line for the 146 at the old Avro plant at
Woodford. The improved versions were renamed as the Avro 146-RJ
family, with the nominal seating capacity defining the series: the origi-
nal 70-seat BAe 146 Srs. 100 became the RJ70, the 85-seat Srs. 200 the
RJ85 and the 100-seat Srs. 300 the RJ100. Because of its excellent attri-
butes, the RJ85 is currently the most popular version, and all three
types are in widespread service worldwide. The production ended in
2002 after reaching 394 aircraft built in total. The RJ85 has a wing span
of 26.34m (85ft. 5in.), a length of 28.56m (93ft. 8.5in.) and a height of
8.61m (28ft. 3 in.).
