AUDI A4 DTM 2011 „Mike Rockenfeller“ AUDI A4 DTM 2011 „Mike Rockenfeller“
Schon 2003 schrieb Rockenfeller,
Jahrgang 1983, Motorsportgeschichte. Als jüngster Fahrer errang
er einen Sieg im Porsche-Carrera-Cup und im Folgejahr wurde er
schon Meister in diesem Cup, ebenfalls als jüngster Fahrer aller
Zeiten. Danach errang er mehrfach Siege bei Sportwagenrennen,
darunter bei den 24-Stunden-Rennen von Le Mans. Seit 2007 fährt
Rockenfeller in der Deutschen Tourenwagen-Meisterschaft mit
dem Audi A4. Seinen ersten Podestsieg errang er schon in seinem
zweiten DTM-Rennen.
Already in the 2008 season the Audi A4 DTM, the most successful
car to come out of Ingolstadt since Audis returned to the DTM,
had clocked up six wins and the title. After these successes Audi
were confronted with the problem of how to improve a near per-
fect vehicle. For the 2009 season the engineers therefore concen-
trated on detail modifications. All the crucial structural features
were retained, included the 4 litre, 460 bhp V8 engine. According
to the rules of August 2009 the car could not be substantially
altered until the end of the 2011 season. Modifications therefore
were limited to numerous details, resulting in the most competi-
tive evolution of a touring car based on the A4. They ran Mike
Rockenfeller’s yellow Audi A4 in the Audi Sport Team Abt
Sportsline. Already by 2003 Rockenfeller, born in 1983, was writing
motor sport history. As the youngest driver he had achieved a win
in the Porsche Carrera Cup and in the following year he took the
championship, likewise as the youngest driver of all time. After
that he won several sports car races, included the Le Mans 24-
hour. Since 2007 Rockenfeller has been driving the Audi A4 in the
DTM (German Touring Car Championship). He first appeared on
the podium in his second DTM series. After the successful 2010
season, in which he finished seventh with 22 points in the overall
standings, he changed from Team Phoenix to Abt Sportsline,
securing the overall victory for his team with 31 points, and for the
first time since 2008 he won the constructors’ title for Audi.
