Das Sd.Kfz. 7 − Mittlerer Zugkraftwagen 8 t – war eine der
bekanntesten Zugmaschinen der deutschen Wehrmacht im
zweiten Weltkrieg. Das Halbkettenfahrzeug wurde vor allem
als Artilleriezugmaschine für schwerere Geschütze eingesetzt.
Eine weitere Variante war das Sd.Kfz. 7/1 mit einer aufgesetz-
ten 2 cm Vierlingsflak 38. Für den Munitionstransport wurde
ein Sd.Ah. 52 mitgeführt. Die Besatzung sollte durch eine
gepanzerte Fahrerkabine besser geschützt werden. Zur
Abwehr der stetig wachsenden Bedrohung durch alliierte
Flugzeuge, wurden immer mehr mechanisierte Truppenteile
mit diesen Selbstfahrlafetten ausgestattet.
Das Sd.Kfz. 7 wurde von Krauss-Maffei entwickelt und ab 1938
bis 1944 gebaut. Der Sechszylinder Maybach-Motor leistete
140 PS und beschleunigte das Fahrzeug auf bis zu 50 km/h.
The Sd.Kfz.7 – medium 8 tonne tracked infantry vehicle – was
one of the best-known tractors used by the German Army in
the Second World War. This half-track was primarily used as an
artillery tractor for heavy guns. Another variant was the Sd.Kfz
7/1 with a mount for a 2cm four-barrelled AA gun 38. For
transporting munitions an Sd.Ah.52 was also used. An
armoured driver’s cab provided better protection for the crew.
To defend against the continually growing threat from allied
aircraft more and more mechanised troop units were
equipped with these self-propelled gun carriages.
The Sd.Kfz. 7 was developed by Krauss-Maffei and built from
1938 to 1944. The six-cylinder Maybach engine delivered 140
hp and accelerated the vehicle up to 50 km/h.
