Die Clemenceau (R98) und ihr Schwesterschiff, die Foch (R99), waren
zwei leichte Flugzeugträger, die als erste französische Träger-Neu -
bauten nach dem 2. Weltkrieg 1961 und 1963 in den Dienst der fran-
zösischen Marine gestellt wurden. Die beiden konventionell angetrie-
benen Schiffe waren unter anderem im ersten Golfkrieg und im Jugo -
slawien-Krieg 1993-1996 weltweit im Einsatz. Beide Träger wurden
modernisiert und erhielten Flugabwehrraketen im Austausch gegen
vier 100-mm-Geschütze. Neben den Flugzeugtypen Etendard, Super
Etendard, Crusader F-8P und Breguet Alize waren auch vier Hub -
schrau ber an Bord stationiert. Die Clemenceau wurde am 1. Oktober
1997, die Foch am 15.November 2000 außer Dienst gestellt.

The Clemenceau (R98) and her sister ship the Foch (R99) were two
light aircraft carriers that were the first new French aircraft carriers to
be built and go into service with the French navy after World War II in
1961 and 1963. The two conventionally powered ships were used
worldwide, including in the first Gulf War and in the Yugoslavian con-
flict 1993-1996. Both carriers were upgraded and were given surface-
to-air missiles to replace four 100 mm guns. In addition to aircraft
types Etendard, Super Etendard, Crusader F-8P and Breguet Alize, four
helicopters were also stationed on board. The Clemenceau was retired
from service on 1st October 1997 and the Foch on 15
th
November
2000.
