Leuchtturm
Als Symbol der Sicherheit und Orientierung sind Leuchttürme aus
vielen Küstenregionen nicht mehr wegzudenken. Mithilfe ihrer Leucht-
feuer dienen sie Schiffen seit Jahrhunderten zur Navigation und Positi-
onsbestimmung und warnen gleichzeitig zuverlässig vor gefährlichen
Bereichen wie Untiefen, Riffen und Sandbänken. Die Reichweite eines
Leuchtfeuers kann dabei bis zu 20 Seemeilen betragen, was mehr als
37 km entspricht. Die einsam in der See der Brandung standhaltenden
Leuchttürme üben seit jeher eine hohe Anziehungskraft für zahlreiche
Touristen aus.
Zu einem der beliebtesten Ausflugsziele zählt dabei der Leuchtturm
Roter Sand, welcher sechs Seemeilen (ca. 11 km) nordöstlich der Insel
Wangerooge direkt in der Nordsee liegt. Die Gesamthöhe des Turms be-
trägt inklusive des auf dem Meeresgrund stehenden Fundaments 52,5 m.
Damit ist er rund 12 m kleiner als der höchste Leuchtturm Deutschlands,
der Eisengitterturm Campen/Ems, welcher eine Höhe von 65 m misst.
Light House
Many coastal regions are unimaginable without their lighthouses;
symbols of safety and orientation. Their signal lights have helped ships
with navigation and positioning for centuries while they also alert to
danger zones such as riffs, sandbanks and shallow waters. The opera-
ting distance of a signal light can cover up to 20 nautical miles, which
corresponds to 37 kilometers or 23 miles. Serenely standing above the
sea and enduring the ocean’s constant surge, lighthouses have always
been great tourist attractions. One of the most attractive destinations
in Europe is the Roter Sand (Red Sand) lighthouse located 6 sea mi-
les (approx. 11 km or 7 miles) off the north east coast of the island of
Wangerooge in the North Sea. Including the base on the seabed, it has
a height of 52.5 meters or 172 feet, which makes it about 12 meters or 39
feet smaller than the highest lighthouse in Germany; the Eisengitter-
turm (Iron Grate Tower) in Campen by the Ems River, which measures
65 meters or 213 feet.

possible de faire abstraction des phares construits dans de nombreuses
régions côtières. Depuis des siècles, leur lumière facilite la navigation

fondations au fond de la mer comprises, est de 52,5 m. Il est 12 m plus
petit que le plus grand phare allemand, le « Eisengitterturm » de Cam-
pen / Ens qui mesure 65 m de haut.

I fari rappresentano la sicurezza e un punto di riferimento. Per ques-
to motivo, è impensabile immaginare le regioni costiere senza di loro.
I loro proiettori, da secoli, aiutano i marinai a navigare e a determinare
la propria posizione, mentre al contempo mettono in guardia in modo
efficace da zone pericolose quali bassi fondali, barriere coralline e ban-
chi di sabbia. La portata del loro proiettore può raggiungere le 20 miglia
marine, ovvero più di 37 km. I fari in posizioni isolate in mezzo al mare,
in grado di resistere ai frangenti, sono sempre stati considerati partico-
larmente affascinanti da numerosi turisti.
Una delle mete turistiche più popolari del Mare del Nord è per esempio
il faro “Sabbia rossa” a sei miglia marine (ca. 11 km) a nordovest dall’isola
di Wangerooge, direttamente dentro al mare. L’altezza totale di questo
faro, compresi i fondamenti piantati sul fondale marino, è di 52,5 metri.
E’ quindi quasi 21 metri più piccolo del faro più alto d’Italia, ovvero il faro
di Genova, alto ben 77 metri.

pen en zandbanken. De reikwijdte van een vuurtoren kan daarbij tot 20
zeemijl bedragen, wat overeenkomt met meer dan 37 km. De vuurto-
rens die eenzaam in de branding van de zee staan, oefenen van oudsher
een grote aantrekkingskracht uit op talrijke toeristen.
Eén van de meest geliefde bestemmingen is de vuurtoren “Roter Sand”,
welke zes zeemijlen (ca. 11 km) ten noordoosten van het eiland Wanger-
ooge direct in de Noordzee ligt. De totale hoogte van de toren bedraagt
inclusief het op de zeebodem staande fundament 52,5 m. Daarmee is hij
12 m kleiner dan de hoogste vuurtoren van Duitsland, de vuurtoren van
Campen/Ems, die 65 m hoog is.
