De Proteus PEC-4665 bepaalt het lichaamsvet m.b.v. de Bio
Elektrische Schijnweerstand Analyse; een proces waarbij een kleine
elektrische schok wordt gestuurd via de handen door het lichaam om
de schijnweerstand te meten. Hoe meer vet aanwezig is in het
lichaam, hoe harder de schok moet werken om door te stromen. Deze
weerstand tegen de schok staat bekend als de schijnweerstand
waarde, welke in waarde toeneemt wanneer het lichaamsvet
toeneemt. De gemeten schijnweerstand waarde wordt dan gevormd
tot een vergelijking (samen met de lengte, het gewicht, sekse en
fysieke gesteldheid) om lichaamsdichtheid en lichaamsvet te
berekenen. Om zeker te zijn van een juiste meting, is deze
vergelijking gerelateerd aan DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray
Absorptiometry) en onderwater weging (Hydrodensitometry).
