Supply
Since
this tuner has no separate mains supply, its
supply lead © should be connected to the supply
socket
of the matching amplifier concerned. The
tuner can be switched on and off either
with
its
mains
switch ® or
with
the mains switch of the
amplifier.
Connections
Amplifier
Signal
output
lead @ should be connected to the
appropriate
input
sockets of the matching amplifier.
Connect
the plug, marked 'L' to the
left
channel,
the
one marked 'R' to the
right
channel of the amplifier.
FM-aerials
Strong or local FM-stations can be received using
the wire aerial supplied, to be connected to the
socket
©.
Since
it is a directional device it should
be orientated for
optimum
reception.
For
best results, particularly in the
case
of FM-
stereo
reception, an external aerial should be
employed.
Depending upon the characteristic impedance of
the cable being used (75 ohm or 300 ohm) connec-
tion
should be made either to socket © or ©.
AM-aerials
The
integral ferrite rod aerial wil! provide satisfac-
tory
reception of strong, local stations.
In fringe
areas
or in locations surrounded by
steel-framed buildings, where satisfactory recep-
tion
cannot be obtained
with
the ferrite rod
aerial,
an
AM-outdoor
aerial should be connected to the
terminal ®,
T-side.
An earth lead may be connect-
ed to the 4-side of this terminal.
This
may help to
eliminate any interference.

with

Tuning
to FM-stations
Depress FM selector switch ©.
Tune to the desired station
with
knob @.
While
tuning
interstation noise is automatically
reduced to an acceptable level.
Tuning is
optimum
and can be stopped when the
colour of pointer LED ® changes
trom
red
into
green.
A servo circuit will automatically tune the
station to its zero centre and lock it in this position.
Remark:
This
circuit does not function when
receiving a weak station.
The
reception quality of FM-stereo broadcasts
depends to a large extent upon the strength of the
stereo
signal being received.
When receiving strong signals, high quality, low
noise
reception will result and FM stereo indicator
@
lights.
When receiving weak signals, stereo noise may
spoil the programme content. In this
case
an
integrated 'sliding stereo' circuit will automatically
improve the signal-to-noise ratio.
Stations
with
a signal strength below the sliding
stereo
range will be received but, however, repro-
duced in mono. In this
case
FM stereo indicator©
does
not
light
and pointer LED ® remains red.
Tuning
to AM stations
Depress either long wave selector switch ® or
medium wave selector switch ®. Pointer LED ®
will generally illuminate in red.
Tune to the desired station
with
knob @.
While
tuning-in
a strong station the colour of pointer
LED
® will change
from
red
into
green. Adjust for
optimum
reception.
Remark:
When receiving weak AM stations (either
long wave or medium wave) the colour of pointer
LED
® will not change
from
red
into
green, but will
remain red.
