COMPLEMENTARY FUNCTIONS
ANSWERING A FACSIMILE OR TELEPHONE CALL WITH THE FAX/PHONE SWITCH
ENABLED
This section explains what to do when an incoming call (facsimile or telephone) is received with the "FAX/
PHONE" parameter enabled. When this parameter is enabled, the facsimile machine is set for manual
reception. Automatic reception can be re-enabled by setting the operating configuration parameter (see the
"PROGRAMMING" chapter).
o The facsimile machine is on. The fax/phone parameter has been enabled in the operating configuration
(see the “Setting the operating configuration parameters” section of the “PROGRAMMING” chapter). The
message “FAX/PHONE” appears on the second line of the display.
1. When a call is received, the facsimile machine (with the fax/phone switch enabled) checks whether it is
a facsimile or telephone call. If it is a fax call, it is automatically set to receive a document, while if it is
a telephone call, the machine beeps (for a period that depends on the setting made by the technician
who installed the machine) and the message “TALK” blinks on the display.
2. If the message “TALK” appears on the display, lift the handset and talk as normal.
If you do not lift the handset within a few seconds, the facsimile machine will prepare to receive a
document.
If you want to send or receive a document at the end of the telephone conversation, follow the procedure
described in the “Sending or receiving a document after a telephone conversation” section.
ANSWERING A FACSIMILE OR TELEPHONE CALL WITH AN ANSWERING DEVICE
CONNECTED
The facsimile can be connected to an external telephone answering device provided it has the relevant
interface port (a third modular socket situated on one of the sides of the machine). Plug the answering device
cable into connector TEL2 (or TAD, depending on the country) on the facsimile machine and connect the
telephone, if connected to the facsimile machine, to the telephone answering device. Then set the answering
device:
- by recording a message that lasts about 20 seconds, such as:
"This is the telephone answering device on fax number nnnnnn. Leave a message as soon as you hear the
beep. To send a fax, just press the start button on your fax machine".
- and setting the number of rings (2 or 3) the answering device waits before answering the call.
Note: Connection is only allowed if it has been enabled by the customer engineering service.
o The FAX/TAD function has been enabled in the operating configuration (see the “Setting the operating
configuration parameters” section of the “PROGRAMMING” chapter). The facsimile machine is set for
manual reception and the message “TAD” will appear on the second line of the display.
When a call is received, the facsimile machine (with the answering device connected and enabled) checks
whether it is a facsimile or telephone call. If it is a fax call, it automatically disables the answering device and
prepares to receive a document, while if it is a telephone call, the answering device will answer with your
prerecorded message and record the caller's message. If the caller dialled on his telephone or wants to send
a document after leaving his message, he must press the start button on his fax machine. The fax machine
intercepts the call signal and prepares for reception.
