5 INPUT/OUTPUT (ZONE 1 - 4)
These INPUT/OUTPUT terminals are dedicated to their respective
ZONE SPEAKERS.
Always turn OFF the CI 980 and other components in the system before
connecting or disconnecting anything to the INPUT/OUTPUT terminals.
Connect the output from a pre-amplier or processor, such as a
surround-sound decoder, to corresponding Zone’s INPUT terminals.
Use a twin RCA-to-RCA lead to connect the left and right Audio
Output” of the preamplier or processor to these INPUT terminals.
A Zone’s OUTPUT terminal is a line level “loop through output. The
same level of input signal at the INPUT terminals of a particular
Zone is available at the corresponding OUTPUT terminals thereby
allowing the same signal to be shared or passed on to another
amplier.
6 GAIN CONTROL (ZONE 1-4)
The CI 980 is equipped with separate GAIN controls for each Zone.
Before switching ON the CI 980 from standby mode for the rst time,
make sure all GAIN controls are set to minimum (MIN) level position.
Rotate clockwise or counterclockwise a Zone's GAIN control to
adjust its audio level with respect to the corresponding Zone's
INPUT source signal.
Level Matching
In a surround sound or system with more than one set of speakers,
dierences in levels can occur due to varying ineciencies among the
speakers. In case your preamplier or processor also has individual trims
for each channel, set these to neutral or mid position (usually marked as
0dB). Adjust the GAIN control so that the speakers driven by the CI 980
have the correct level compared to the other speakers, judging from
your listening position.
Extended Volume Control Range
Many systems have so much voltage gain that the speakers (or your
ears) are overdriven at any volume control setting higher than 11 or 12
oclock. As a result you are conned to using only the lower half of the
volume control’s range, where adjustments are imprecise and where
channel balance errors tend to be greater.
If the input level is reduced, you can turn up the volume control of
your processor or preamplier, making more eective use of its range.
(Suggestion: Adjust the GAIN controls so that your preferred maximum
sound levels usually occur at about 2 or 3 oclock on the volume
control). As an added benet, this procedure suppresses any noise
produced by the preamplier’s high level circuitry (e.g. any residual hum
or hiss that does not go away when the Volume is turned down).
7 AC MAINS INPUT
The CI 980 comes supplied with a separate AC Mains cable.
Before connecting the plug to the mains power source, ensure that
it is rmly connected to the CI 980’s AC Mains input socket rst.
Always disconnect the mains power plug from the mains power
source rst, before disconnecting the cable from the CI 980’s AC
Mains input socket.
8 FUSE HOLDER
In the unlikely event a fuse may need to be replaced, unplug the AC
cord from the wall. Then, remove all connections from the amplier.
Use a athead screwdriver or similar to open the fuse holder via the
slot located on the top edge of the fuse holder. With the screwdriver
in place, push it outward to unlatch and open the fuse holder.
Only replace the fuse with the same type, size, and specication -
T6.3AL 250V.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Do not use any substitute fuses of dierent types or with dierent ratings
or values. Failure to observe this precaution may cause damage to the
amplier circuits and may create a re hazard and/or defeat the safety
built into the amplier and may void the warranty.
9 +12V TRIGGER IN/OUT
The +12V TRIGGER IN allows the CI 980 to be remotely switched
from standby mode to operating mode and vice-versa by ancillary
equipment such as a preamplier, AV processor, etc. The controlling
device must be equipped with a 12V trigger output to use this feature.
The +12V TRIGGER OUT is used for controlling external equipment that
is equipped with a +12V trigger input. With TRIGGER - OFF/ON/AUTO
set to OFF, this output will be 12V when the CI 980 is at operating mode
and 0V when it is at standby mode or powered OFF.
Refer also to the item about "TRIGGER - OFF/ON/AUTO".
10 TRIGGER - OFF/ON/AUTO
This switch has three settings - OFF, ON or AUTO.
At OFF setting, +12V TRIGGER OUT will output 12V when CI 980 is at
operating mode and 0V when it is at standby mode or powered OFF.
At ON setting and with the +12V TRIGGER IN of the CI 980
connected to the DC output jack of a compatible auxiliary
component, the CI 980 can be switched remotely from standby
mode to operating mode and vice-versa. Use a 3.5mm mini-jack to
pass +12V from the auxiliary equipment into the CI 980.
At AUTO setting, the CI 980 will instantaneously turn to
operating mode from standby mode if it senses any input signal
(approximately above 20mV RMS input) applied through any of the
GLOBAL or ZONE INPUT sockets.
NOTES
With the rear panel POWER switch at ON position and the OFF/ON/
AUTO switch at AUTO setting, the CI 980 cannot be switched ON using
the front panel STANDBY button. Slide the OFF/ON/AUTO switch to OFF
setting for the CI 980 to be normally switched ON (or back to standby
mode) using the front panel STANDBY button.
It will take about 10 minutes for the CI 980 to go to standby mode when
the input signal source is turned OFF.
11 POWER SWITCH
The POWER switch supplies the master AC mains power for the
CI 980.
When the POWER switch is set to ON position and with TRIGGER
OFF/ON/AUTO set to OFF, the CI 980 goes to standby mode as
indicated by the amber status of the Standby LED. Press the front
panel Standby button to switch ON the CI 980 from standby mode.
If you intend not to use the CI 980 for long periods of time (such as
when on vacation), switch o the POWER switch.
