1. POWER SWITCH
ThisistheOn/Offswitchformainspowertotheamplifier.Itwilllightup
whenyouramplifierisreceivingthecorrectmainspowerandisswitched
on.Itwillnotbelitwhentheamplifierisswitchedoffand/orisnot
receivingmainspower.
Note: Pleaseensuretheamplifierisswitchedoffandunpluggedfrom
themainselectricitysupplywheneveritismoved.
2. STANDBY SWITCH
TheStandbySwitchisusedinconjunctionwiththePowerSwitch(item1)
toʻwarmupʼtheamplifierbeforeuseandtoprolongthelifeoftheoutput
valves.WhenpoweringuptheamplifieralwaysengagethePowerSwitch
first,leavingtheStandbyswitchonʻStandbyʼ.Thisallowstheapplication
ofthevoltagerequiredtoheatthevalvestotheircorrectoperating
temperature.After approximately two minutesthevalveswillhave
reachedthecorrectoperatingtemperatureandtheStandbySwitchcan
beengaged.Inordertoprolongvalvelife,theStandbySwitchalone
shouldalsobeusedtoturntheamplifieronandoffduringbreaksina
performance.Also, when switching off,alwaysdisengagetheStandby
SwitchpriortothemainPowerSwitch.
3. PRESENCE CONTROL
Thiscontroloperatesinthe1992LEMʼspowersectionandaddshigh
frequenciestoyoursoundbyalteringthepoweramplifierʼsnegative
feedback.Turning thiscontrolclockwiseaddsmoreedgeandʻsparkleʼto
yoursound,makingitcrisperandmorecutting.
4. BASS CONTROL
Thisadjuststhebottomend,turningitclockwiseincreasestheamountof
lowfrequenciesinthesound.
5. MIDDLE CONTROL
Thisadjuststhelevelofthoseall-importantmid-rangefrequencies.
Turning it clockwise increases the mids and fattens your sound, giving it
morepunch.Turningitanticlockwisereducesthemids.
6. TREBLE CONTROL
Thisadjuststhetop-end.Turningitclockwiseincreasestheamountof
highfrequencies(treble)presentinthesound,makingyourtonebrighter.
Note: Thefollowingfourcontrols-PRESENCE(item3),BASS(item4),
MIDDLE(item5)&TREBLE(item6)-areallshared,meaningthatthey
allworkonbothChannelIandChannelII.TheTreble,MiddleandBass
controlsarehighlyinteractiveandalteringonecontrolcanchangethe
waytheothertwobehave.Forthisreason,experimentationis
recommended.
Lemmyʼspreferredsettingsareshownonthepanelabove.
7. VOLUME I
ThiscontrolstheoveralloutputlevelofChannelI,turningitclockwise
increasesthevolume.Thischannelisvoicedforahighertrebleresponse
thanChannelII.
8. VOLUME II
ThiscontrolstheoveralloutputlevelofChannelII,turningitclockwise
increasesthevolumelevel.Thischannelisvoicedforaʻnormalʼ,flatter
response.
NOTE: When connecting to any input socket always use a high quality
screenedguitarlead.
9. HIGH SENSITIVITY INPUT FOR CHANNEL I
ThisistheʻhighsensitivityʼguitarinputforChannelI-thebrighterofthe
twochannels-andistheoneLemmyuses.
10. LOW SENSITIVITY INPUT FOR CHANNEL I
ThisistheʻlowsensitivityʼguitarinputforChannelI.Itis6dBlowerin
volumethantheʻhighsensitivityʼinputandhasadarkersoundaswell
duetoitssignificantlylowerinputimpedance.
11. HIGH SENSITIVITY INPUT FOR CHANNEL II
ThisistheʻhighsensitivityʼguitarinputforChannelII,theso-called
ʻNormalʼchannel.
12. LOW SENSITIVITY INPUT FOR CHANNEL I
ThisistheʻlowsensitivityʼguitarinputforChannelII.Itis6dBlowerin
volumethantheʻhighsensitivityʼinputandhasadarkersoundaswell
duetoitssignificantlylowerinputimpedance.
Performance Note: Bridging or ‘jumping’ the two channels
BecausebothChannelsofthe1992LEMhavethesamenumberofgain
stages(two)andarethereforeinphasewitheachother,itispossibleto
bridgethemtogether(ʻjumpingʼorʻlinkingʼ)andusethembothatthe
sametime.Doingthisenablesyoutoexpandupontheampstonal
possibilitiesbymixingthetwochannelstogether.Thesameprincipalcan
alsobeusedtoʻdaisy-chainʼtwoormoreamplifierstogether.
Themostcommonwaytoutilisebothchannelsistoplugyourguitarinto
thetop(highsensitivity)inputofChannelIandthenrunashortʻjumperʼ
guitarcable(i.e.ascreenedcable)fromtheChannelIʼsbottom(low
sensitivity)inputtothetop(highsensitivity)inputofChannelII.(fig.1)
TheʻreverseʼisalsopossiblenamelypluggingyourguitarintoChannel
IIʼstopinputandthenrunningtheʻjumperʼcablefromChannelIIʼsbottom
inputtoChannelIʼstopinput.Thislesscommonapproachcanyield
someinterestingtonalvariations.(fig.2)
1. LOUDSPEAKER OUTPUTS
WARNING! Never use the amplifier without a load attached!
Therearetwoparallelloudspeakeroutputjacksprovidedforconnection
tospeakerextensioncabinet(s).Pleasealwaysensurethattheamplifier's
outputimpedanceselectorissetcorrectly(seeitem2)andALWAYS
ensureyouusegoodqualityspeaker(unshielded)cables.NEVERuse
guitar(shielded)cables.
Alwaysuseanon-screenedMarshallapprovedspeakerleadwhen
connectinganextensioncabinettotheseunits.
2. OUTPUT IMPEDANCE SELECTOR
Matchestheamplifierʼsoutputtotheload(speaker)impedance.
Your1992LEM should be completely powered down before the Output
ImpedanceSelectoristurned.
AsisthecasewithanyMarshallall-valveamplifieritisimperativethat:a)
theamplifierisconnectedtoaloadwhilstinoperationandb)the
impedanceselectedontheamplifiermatchesthetotalimpedanceofthe
extensionspeakercabinet(s)beingused.

3. MAINS SELECTOR
Matchestheamplifierʼsmainstransformertotheincomingmainsvoltage.
Your1992LEM should always be completely powered down before the
mainsselectoristurned.
WARNING! ALWAYS ensure that this rotary selector is set to the correct
mainsvoltageapplicableforthecountrywherethe1992LEMisbeing
used.Ifyoudonotknow,consultyourauthorizedMarshalldealer.
Adjustingtheselectorfrom230Vto120/100Vorvice-versawillrequire
themainsfuse(item5)tobechangedtothecorrectvalueasdetailedon
therearpanel.
4. MAINS INPUT
Youramp is provided with a detachable mains (power) lead, which is
connectedhere.Thespecificmainsinputvoltageratingthatyour
amplifierhasbeenbuiltforisindicatedonthebackpanel.Before
connectingforthefirsttime,pleaseensurethatyouramplifieris
compatiblewithyourelectricitysupply.Ifyouhaveanydoubt,pleaseget
advicefromaqualifiedtechnician.Your Marshall dealer will help you in
thisrespect.
5. MAINS FUSE
Thecorrectvalueofmainsfuseisspecifiedontherearpanelofthe
amplifier. NEVERattempttobypassthefuseorfitoneoftheincorrect
value.
6. H.T. FUSE
ThecorrectvalueofthisH.T. fuse is specified on the rear panel ofthe
amplifier. NEVERattempttobypassthefuseorfitoneoftheincorrect
value.
