The JACOB
JENSEN
TM
Smoke Alarm is an ionising smoke detector for use
in private homes. The smoke alarm meets the requirements stated in
EN 14604:2005/AC:2008. The smoke alarm contains a small amount of radioactive
material encapsulated in a special impact strengthened container and which is
completely safe when the smoke alarm is used as described in this manual.
Smoke alarm positioning
Best protection is obtained by installing a smoke alarm in the middle of the
ceiling in every room. However, as a minimum, there should be at least one
smoke alarm fitted to the ceiling between the bedroom and the living room or
the kitchen. Most fires break out in the living room or in the kitchen whilst we
are sleeping. If the bedrooms are situated in several different areas in the home,
more smoke alarms should be installed. Recommended max. distance between
two alarms is 10 m. In a house with more than one floor, there should be at
least one smoke alarm on each floor. It is important to test that the smoke alarm
can be easily heard from every bedroom. If necessary, a smoke alarm should be
installed in the bedroom. The smoke alarm should be placed in the middle of the
ceiling, at least 0,5 m from a wall or corner.
Do not install smoke alarms in the following locations
1. In a kitchen or a bathroom. Smoke from cooking or baking can result in false
alarms.
2. Close to an air duct or extractor fan. They can extract the smoke thus
preventing the smoke alarm from operating correctly.
3. In a garage where naturally combustible particles can result in false alarms.
4. In a room with great temperature fluctuations (between 0 – 40 degrees Celsius)
and/or high air humidity (max. 85 % relative air humidity).
5. Close to electric installations with fluorescent lighting.
6. In the top of a roof ridge or other places where the air may become stagnant.
Apartment / detached house:
In a large apartment with a long corridor at least two smoke alarms should be
installed as smoke spreads in a hall.

Mounting
The smoke alarm should be fitted using the enclosed
mounting bracket, which is to be mounted in the
ceiling with one screw only (screw and plug for 5 mm
drill enclosed – please use a special plug for plaster
ceilings).
When the bracket is fixed, the smoke alarm is attached
with a click. It is now firm but can be turned for
adjustment around the point to which it is attached.
