Bambi werd uitgebracht in augustus 1942 en was de eerste Disney-
film waarin uitsluitend dieren optraden. Om de rol van Bambi zo
echt mogelijk te maken, bestudeerden de tekenaars de bewegingen
van twee reekalfjes die aan de studio geschonken waren!
In februari 1950 was Walt Disney’s versie van het klassieke sprookje
Assepoester een van de populairste bioscoopfilms van het jaar. De scène
waarin Assepoesters oude werkpakje door de fee veranderd wordt in een
sprookjesachtige baljapon was Walt Disney’s favoriete stukje tekenfilm.
De Disney-film naar de beroemde boeken Alice in Wonderland en
Achter de spiegel van Lewis Carroll kwam uit in 1951. In 1936 stal
Mickey Mouse de show in Thru the Mirror, een tekenfilmversie van
Achter de spiegel.
De film 101 Dalmatiërs was gebaseerd op een boek van Dodie Smith
en werd uitgebracht in januari 1961. Dit was de eerste film waarin
alle tekeningen van de kunstenaars direct in de voltooide film
gefotokopieerd werden, waardoor het hele productieproces aanzienlijk
werd versneld.
De Leeuwenkoning brulde in juni 1994 wereldwijd in de bioscopen. De
film won een Oscar voor beste song met het liedje Can You Feel the Love
Tonight gezonden door Elton John. Ook Hans Zimmer kreeg een Oscar
voor beste filmmuziek.
Pinokkio, gebaseerd op het bekende sprookje van Collodi, was
Disney’s tweede tekenfilm en kwam uit in februari 1940. De film won
een Oscar voor beste filmmuziek en voor beste song (When You Wish
Upon a Star).
Aladdin, gebaseerd op de oude verhalen van Duizend-en-een-nacht,
werd uitgebracht in november 1992. De per computer gegenereerde
beelden stelden de filmmakers in staat een aantal spectaculaire scènes
te produceren, inclusief de tocht per vliegend tapijt door de grot der
Wonderen. De film won een Oscar voor beste song (A Whole New
World) en beste filmmuziek.
