Che cos'è un DVD-Audio?

Grazie al processo MLP "Lossless" (senza perdite) della Dolby

Laboratories, i dischi DVD-Audio possono memorizzare fino a sei canali

audio a 24 bit/96 kHz, incluso un canale separato per i bassi a bassa

frequenza. Da confrontare ai due canali audio a 16 bit/44.1 kHz dei CD!

Per gli appassionati dell'audio stereo, un disco DVD-Audio può in

alternativa includere due canali audio a 24 bit/192 kHz, surclassando

così la qualità di ogni formato audio musicale precedentemente

sviluppato.

I dischi DVD-Audio possono altresì integrare un complemento visivo alla

musica. I dischi possono contenere gallerie fotografiche, testi,

annotazioni o qualsiasi combinazione di fermoimmagini, animazione e

testo. I produttori e gli artisti hanno addirittura la possibilità di inserire

dei commenti audio, simili a quelli presenti in numerosi dischi DVD-

Video. Inoltre, come nel caso dei DVD-Video, ogni disco DVD-Audio può

tra l'altro contenere video in movimento, con audio d'accompagnamento

in Dolby Digital fino a 5.1 canali.
