making rice in your
pressure cooker
A note about the measuring cup provided with your Pressure Cooker
Your Pressure Cooker is able to cook a maximum of 6 cups of raw rice,
which is the equivalent of 12 cups of cooked rice. A rice cooker cup is
equivalent to 6 ounces, or approx 3/4 of a cup. This is why it is important
to use the RICE MEASURING CUP that comes with your rice cooker and
not a standard 8-ounce cup measure to ensure perfect results every
time.
When pressure cooking rice, the combined volume or rice and water
must not exceed the 6-cup marking as indicated on the inside of the
REMOVABLE COOKING POT. Once you become familiar with cooking
rice in your pressure cooker you can experiment with different volumes of
water to suit your personal taste as long as the combined volume does
not exceed the 6 cup marking.
1. When making 6 cups rice, use 6 RICE MEASURE CUPS of rice, place rice
into the REMOVABLE COOKING POT. Fill pot with water to the 6 mark
and indicated on the side on the pot.
2. As a general rule, when cooking 2 cups (or less) of uncooked rice, use
1 tablespoon of butter or oil. For measurements greater than 2 cups,
use 2 tablespoons of butter or oil. This will prevent foaming during the
cooking process.
3. For white rice set TIMER for 5-10 minutes, for brown rice 15-20 minutes.
You can adjust the time up or down to suit your personal taste.
4. When time has elapsed the pressure cooker will automatically switch
to Keep Warm. You can release the pressure manually or let the
pressure drop on its own (30-40 minutes). Use caution if releasing the
pressure manually as hot steam or liquid will be ejected from the
Pressure Release Valve.
using your pressure cooker
in delay mode
(Cont'd.)
9. After pressure cooking is complete the green COOK light will turn off
and the orange WARM light will illuminate indicating that the cooker
is in keep warm mode. The TIMER will display elapsed TIME is WARM
mode.
10. The pressure can be released manually or on its own. If a recipe states
"let pressure drop on its own," unplug the cooker and let sit until the
lid removes without any resistance, approximately 30 – 40 minutes
depending on volume of food in the cooker. When recipe states
"reduce pressure at once" or “reduce pressure manually”, unplug the
cooker and turn the PRESSURE RELEASE DEVICE to the VENT position to
release steam and pressure. (See Figure 2). Use caution when manually
releasing pressure as hot steam will be released, we recommend using
tongs or a kitchen towel to turn the pressure release valve. WARNING!
Never manually vent the pressure cooker when cooking liquid
ingredients such as such as soups, stews, and stocks. Press the WARM/
CANCEL button and unplug the cooker from the outlet. Wait 30 – 40
minutes before attempting to open the lid. If the lid has any resistance
when attempting to open wait additional time until it freely opens with
no resistance.
11. Pressure is completely reduced when the following 3 conditions exist:
the PRESSURE RELEASE DEVICE is in the VENT position, (see Figure 2)
and you no longer hear steam escaping from the PRESSURE RELEASE
VALVE and the PRESSURE INDICATOR PIN has dropped and the LID
opens freely with no force. Only then is it safe to remove pressure
cooker lid and serve food. Remove the lid by grasping the LID HANDLE
and twisting counter-clockwise to the UNLOCK position. Lift straight
up and always tilt the lid away from you, so any remaining steam is
blocked from your face. As a safety feature, the lid will not open unless
all pressure is reduced. DO NOT force the lid open if it does not open
freely, this means that the unit is still under pressure.
