Lichaamsgewicht / Body Mass Index (queteletindex)
De Body Mass Index (BMI) is een getal dat vaak wordt gebruikt voor de beoordeling van het lichaamsge-
wicht. Het getal wordt berekend met de waarden van het lichaamsgewicht en de lichaamslengte. De for-
mule hiervoor is: Body Mass Index = Lichaamsgewicht : Lichaamslengte².
De eenheid voor BMI is daarom [kg/m²].

Let op dat bij zeer gespierde lichamen (bodybuilder) de BMI-interpretatie overgewicht aangeeft. De reden
hiervoor is dat met de ruim bovengemiddelde spiermassa in de BMI-formule geen rekening wordt gehou-
den.
