1.2. BEFORE YOU GO CYCLING
Do not cycle if you are under the inuence of medicines or other substances that could affect your cycling
ability.
Always take good care when you use a new bike for the rst time. It always takes a little while to get use
to different types of brakes, pedals and the handlebars.
The pedals could become slippery by weather conditions. It’s a good idea to keep a proper grip by
wearing the right shoes.
Wear properly tting clothing and make sure any luggage is properly secured. Loose clothing or luggage
can become trapped in moving or rotating parts of the bike.
Make sure you are clearly visible on the bike, particularly in bad weather or when it’s dark. Remember to
switch on the front and the rear light, and make sure the reectors and lights are clean. Before you get on
your bike, check that the light is working properly and that the accessories do not cover the light or trap
the cables.
We recommend you wear a helmet that complies with the NEN-EN 1078 standard. In some countries it is
compulsory to wear a helmet. Check whether this applies in the country where you are going to use your
bike.
Check the tyre pressure. The correct pressure will be printed on the tyre itself, depending on its type and
size.
Always check the brakes before you set off. Make sure that the nuts are still tight and that the brake
cables are not frayed or kinked.
Also check that the grips are rmly secured. Loose, worn grips must be replaced to avoid accidents.
Always fully raise the stand before you set off.
1.3. DURING YOUR CYCLING TRIP
Keep both hands on the handlebars and don’t be distracted.
Do not have yourself towed or propelled by other vehicles.
Use your hand to indicate a change of direction so other road users know where you’re going.
Adjust your speed and brake a little sooner when you go downhill. When you need to brake hard, use
both brakes, never just the front brakes.
Remember the maximum weight capacity of the racks on the bike, you can always ask the Alpina dealer if
you have any questions. Luggage carriers are not suitable for transporting people.
Do not carry any heavy objects on your bicycle. Heavy objects can unbalance your bike, require a longer
braking distance and even cause damage to the bike.
If the bike fell over, check whether there is any damage to the bike. It is best to ask an Alpina dealer to
check this. We recommend you replace the handlebars after a fall, even if there was no visible damage.
Invisible damage could also lead to a breakage in the course of time.
2. POINTS OF ATTENTION
2.1. FRAME, PARTS AND ACCESSORIES
If your bicycle fell over and its frame or other parts were bent, you should never bend it back into its
original shape. The material could be damaged badly, but invisible, and there could be a serious risk of
it breaking at any time. Therefore the frame should be replaced if it is distorted. Always visit an Alpina
